Chairman, Tess Murison says “It gives me great pleasure to announce that South Holland Singers has chosen Samantha Graper as our new Musical Director. We are overjoyed to welcome Sam and are eager for her to push our musical boundaries and help us to grow and continue performing choral music. Sam is Head of Music at University Academy, Holbeach, and also runs Mirinesse Singers, the ladies’ choir in Spalding.
New Musical Director, Sam Graper, says “I was so excited to be conducting my first concert with South Holland Singers in December. It was lovely getting to know everyone in the choir last term and it has been a great joy for me to introduce the Magnificat to many of them, as I think it is one of Rutter’s best works. As with all Rutter, there are many wonderful melodies to enjoy, but there are also so many lush harmonies and inventive rhythmic elements to this work which I am sure you will appreciate. Rutter said of the Magnificat: “[it is] a poetic outpouring of praise, joy and trust in God”, and this music really does reflect this idea. I think it was an ideal work to celebrate the season of Advent and to look forward to Christmas.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the choir for your welcome and hard work, and for making me feel so welcome, particularly Tess and David”.
