Sunday Concert at Burtey Fen Collection

As part of our Seventieth Anniversary, a number of members met on Sunday, 15th October 2017 for a concert given by Nicholas Pitts, joint owner of the Burtey Fen Collection, and our very own accompanist, David Shepherd.

Unusually, this was a concert for us rather than us giving a concert for others!

In the first half, Nicholas gave us a recital on the Wurlitzer Cinema organ. We enjoyed a very varied selection of musical items and genres.

We then enjoyed a refreshment break and tea, coffee and cake were served.

Suitably refreshed, we were then given a recital by David on the mighty Compton. David gave us some of the history of the Compton, and an explanation of how a Cinema organ differs from a Church organ.

He also explained that it has a stop called “Krummit”. I’m sure that this will be a talking point in the future!

Finally, our former Chairman, Mary Hurst, gave us an update on the History of the South Holland Singers.

Current Chairman, Tess Murison, gave a vote of thanks to Nicolas, David and Mary for a very enjoyable social event.
